A lot has happened since turning the "Dirty Thirty," a rollercoaster of emotions that has kept me on the edge of my seat and chewing on furniture. (don’t ask) While I’ve been talking smack via Blogger and Twitter, a lot of wheeling and dealings transpired behind the scenes: revisions, phone conferences, revisions, networking, waiting, revisions, email-tag, more waiting, revisions, editorial meetings, and let’s not forget REVISIONS! Top that off with catching the plague and that sums up the past year up until the present. Thankfully, the worst is over and my tribulation is at an end…for now.
Ladies, gentlemen, and those still undecided, I have great news. It’s AMAZING news actually, but I’m still in a state of shock and heavy doses of Nyquil to convey my excitement properly. I proudly announce that my manuscript has been sold to Dafina Books (an imprint of Kensington) in a 3-book deal. I’d like to thank Selena James for taking a chance on a first-timer with an overactive imagination.
It’s been a long, grueling process that stretched my faith and writing muscles to its limits, but it was worth the trial and errors to give my story a home. Finally, I am able to talk about my book (summary revealed in next post) and give Pamela Harris her interview. ( I haven’t forgotten about you.)
So many people have supported me this past year: friends and family waving pom-poms, editors offering priceless advice, betas displaying saintly patience, followers who are just as crazy as I am, but most of all, an agent who is heaven sent.
Kathleen Ortiz has talked me off the ledge more times than I can count and has gone beyond the call of duty of representation. Her determination and loyalty to her clients is nothing short of divine, and those lucky enough to sign with her find a rare gem indeed.
At first, I didn’t want to make this announcement. Believe it or not, I’m extremely shy and I hate to boast about anything. But I feel this will give others encouragement to keep writing and keep pressing forward—no matter how many rejection letters they get, no matter how many people say they can’t do it. It’s a test to see how strong you are and the training is beyond necessary for what lies ahead. Even though I’ve overcome many obstacles, plenty more wait for me behind the open door of opportunity. For now, I will celebrate each victory as it comes and I invite all of you to join me.
Cheers!!!
